What exactly is flash fiction? It’s certainly not a substitute for reading a good novel. Heaven’s no! But like a novel, it’s plot driven, has characters, tension, and a resolution. It can also not be plot driven. Like a novel, flash fiction may employ elements, such as dialogue and stream of consciousness. But unlike a novel, even a short story, flash fiction is extremely short: it's written in 1500 words or less. I think of it more like eating a pistachio buried inside a piece of dark chocolate. Like chocolate, it's brief and filled with writers' hope of being delicious.
